Dr. Catania works in the Department of General Surgery at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia. He is a 1994 graduate of The Temple University School of Medicine, and completed his surgical residency at Brown University/ Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island.
Dr. Catania is Board Certified in General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow in The American College of Surgeons.
He is also a member of The Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, The Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract, and The Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.
Dr. Catania specializes in minimally invasive, bariatric, hernia, and endoscopic surgery.
He is a winner of numerous awards, including the Intern of the Year Award, Outstanding Chief Resident Award, Teaching Resident of the Year Award, and The Academic Achievement Award, all from The Brown University Department of Surgery. He is also a winner of the W. Emory Burnett Award from The Temple University Department of Surgery as well as the Resident Paper of the Year Award from The New England Surgical Society.
